Here's a simple 2 axis gimbal-like turret. This was built to test different stepper motor control techniques (half, quarter, microstep, etc). The CAD part files were sent to an online rapid prototype service company and I got back the plastic parts. Cool, eh? The current version uses a Spartan 3 FPGA and can be controlled over a serial port.

NOTE: The turret was originally designed to have an on-board PCB with all the electronics there. (You can see the standoffs in the picture at the top) However, I realized this test did pretty much everything I intended to do, and I wasn't going to learn much else spending money to make a PCB for it.
